Did you see this? I'm still giggling about him stating wether he's seen what Jeremy has done or not. I love Mr. May.

The thing I like about this is he says he likes him. I really began to think they hate each other but fake it because of the show/money. I still like the theory is this is all cooked up so they can film the supercar showdown in secret.

One day the reporters will push May over the edge, now THAT will be something to see I'd reckon.

Anyway, I do love how he's responding. May's the kinda bloke you like to sit down and have a pint or twelve with for sure.

I don't know about that, I have a few friends who'd say the same thing about me. They're the ones I trust the most.

He will be very polite when he bashes the reporter's head in.

He really seems to be a decent, down-to-earth guy, and that's something that I respect. Like how he's obviously not terribly pleased to have the press bothering him, but nonetheless, answers their question without being a dick about it.

There's an article in the Telegraph about the whole thing that also has a wonderful James May moment:

When May was initially asked if Clarkson was innocent, he said: "Of being a knob? No."

He tried to get back into his garage, where he keeps his collection of motorbikes, but said: "I have managed to lock myself out, that's embarrassing," before going through the front door.

Fun fact: his crazy-patterned shirts are made from Liberty fabric. My wife loves their fabrics, too, and actually has a few tops with the same patterns as May's. Last time we were in London, she actually saw him picking out fabrics at the store! He obviously didn't want to be disturbed, so she didn't go up and talk to him or anything, but there was much excitement.

Correct, he's British, so I guess it'll be more like this "Frightfully sorry old chap, but you just pushed me a tad too far you see."

Sucks that Clarkson is such an egomaniac, 'cause he's really the heart of the show. He's one of the richest men with mangled brown teeth you'll ever see and oh my gosh, don't he know it.

Meanwhile Hammond has to struggle just to be relevant, which he never is, and he's probably reinvented himself over and over again (Oi! I like motorbikes, did you know that?! HEY, I think Mustangs and old American cars are the cat's ass, PUT ME IN COACH, hey I just got my teeth whitened—INSTANT COMIC RELIEF HAHAHAHA) just to seem halfway palatable.

May is honestly as funny as Clarkson and slightly more interesting (owing to his lack of ego and broader experience and the fact that he never appeared on television looking like this:

Kinja'd!!!

and it would be a shame to see them split up, but fuck it; do it live. Let Clarkson go to Sky and find another underrated, edgy, talented guy to work with May. Worst thing that can happen here is scrapping the whole team, or moving forward with a May/Hammond duo, or adding some bullshit youngblood DJ. For God's sake, Hammond is bad enough. Chin up, Dick, you're awesome, baby, don't ever change, btw.

They'll uncover his redneck past and he'll go all cockney, break out a cricket bat and start rhyming and calling people "bellends."

You are extremely right, except I think that you are a little too harsh on Richard, he really have some issues to stay relevant, heck my biggest experience of him outside TG was Brainiac, which was just a decent show. Unlike Jeremy and May he doesn't have a lot of other interesting hobbies, he is too rooted in cars and just cars. He was the eye candy to draw the females to watch the show. Still he can be extremely funny on his own, this can be easily seen on the specials. And his dynamic with May is spot.

Can there be TG without the buffoon - not for a long time. Except if they don't find a person that is a lot like Jeremy, but why change him then.

P.S. Hammond's love at least for American cars is not something that he reinvented himself. He genuinely loves them.

If Richard Hammond is too American, then, I nominate myself.

After all, I'm an American that's secretly British, doesn't like interesting foods, enjoys a good bit of off-roading, loves classic cars, doesn't like motorbikes, and hasn't had his teeth whitened.

It's really only those last two points we diverge on, it's freakish.

Well, besides age. He's in his forties, I'm just barely old enough to enter into an employment contract legally.

True, thinking back on some of his adventures with May, like taking the cruise ship from Britain to Norway (or wherever), he is a pretty funny guy and a good personality and maybe his polish is just off-putting sometimes.

My mother-in-law is a fine candidate. She was Irish-born, English-raised, and American settled. Can wax nostalgic on everything from Bird's custard and Weetabix to Plymouth Volares and ranking fish and chip establishments.

Sample humor: How do you know a motorcyclist is happy? The bugs in his teeth.

So yeah, that would fit right in with May humor. Hammond could maintain his continuous eye-rolling routine and there we'd be, all set.

I wonder though seriously if this show (the current, most successful iteration) is near its end.

As do I, honestly. The hosts are getting a bit, well... dated, and the rate of Really Good Segments is now about one to a season. It's becoming a reality travelogue, which is good, because that's what it's best at. Three morons traveling through inhospitable locales in POS cars... it's basically Three Idiots Abroad. And Occasionally a Stig.

As I said elsewhere, I can't imagine this being a way to film the supercar 3-way in secret because the paparazzi are absolutely dogging every single one of them. This mess has made doing anything in secret about 100 times harder than it was last week.
